Angela Baker was very young when she lost her brother and father in a boating accident. She was raised by her Aunt Martha with her cousin Ricky. Slightly disturbed and painfully shy, Angela was sent to Camp Arawak with her cousin for the summer. Her shyness made her a target for the other kids to pick on. One of the counselors and one girl were particularly mean to her and she didn't know how to react to the torment. Because of that she became the target for more ridicule and pranks.
Eventually Angela had enough and taught several of her tormentors not to pick on her or anyone else again. Angela was never quite the same after that summer.
Years later Angela took a job at Camp Rolling Hills. She had an old fashioned approach as to how camp should be and a way of making sure that those who didn't follow her rules didn't get to come back next summer. Most of the kids thought she was odd and several of the counselors were a little put off with her behavior since she kept to herself as much as possible.
Unfortunately the camp had to close after that summer. Too many unruly campers and neglectful counselors. Angela was extremely upset by the news.
She tried to attend camp one more time, but as a camper again. She was older than the other kids, but she lied about her age to fit in better. She was hoping for that one perfect summer camp experience and Camp New Horizons promised to be just that. Unfortunately it was a sort of experiment. In fact its slogan was "An experiment in sharing". A group of inner city kids mingled with a group of rich upper class kids for a couple weeks. Still Angela had hope the summer would be the best she ever spent at camp. That was quickly crushed when she realized that the kids were all thugs, bigots and drug addicts.
She had to teach each of them how to behave properly and how to enjoy camp to the fullest. She never had the summer camp experience she was looking for but she still had a lot of fun.
"It seems every year I'm at camp someone loses their head."
