Before he became the Mummy, Imhotep was just a man who fell in love with the wrong woman.
He was a high priest and she was a princess. There love was forbidden, but he could think of nothing except being with her. When she died of illness, he tried to bring her back to life using the Scroll
of Thoth. This was also forbidden and he was entombed alive for it.
He was resurrected accidentally by an archaeologist in 1921
using the Scroll of Thoth. He took the scroll and went into hiding for eleven years
under the name Ardeth Bey. He re-appeared at an expedition site
to help uncover the buried princess Anck-es-en-Amon, his beloved.
He still wanted to be with her after all those years.
He found his princess re-incarnated in a woman named Helen. He revealed to Helen the truth about
their past and that he would bring Anck-es-en-Amon's spirit back. He succeeded in bringing back the spirit of his beloved, but the princess was disgusted at what she saw. She
called on the goddess Isis for help and rejected Imhotep.
His love for Anck-es-enAmon lasted centuries and even death.
All he wanted was to be able
to love her forever.
All he got in return were centuries of pain and suffering.
