Known to humans as Predator, this alien species is characterized by their trophy hunting of other dangerous species. It is a rite of passage into adulthood for them. They travel from planet to planet looking for a challenge, and have visited earth on a few occasions but were mistaken for monsters. They were misunderstood based on their appearance and their advanced technology. A Predator's hunting helmet increases its ability to see in a variety of spectrums, ranging from the low infrared to the high ultraviolet, and also filters the ambient heat from the area, allowing them to see things with greater clarity and detail. They also have active camouflage allowing them to blend chameleon like into any environment to appear almost invisible.

One young hunter ventured to the jungles near Guatemala to earn his hunting trophies but was met by a group of US military men who were openly hostile. He challenged the men to a hunting competition, agreeing to compete against all of them. After winning the competition another group came to challenge him. He managed to defeat all but one man in that group. His name was Dutch and he was a worthy opponent. The young hunter decided to challenge him to a hand to hand combat. Predators have advanced technology and he did not want his superior weapons to be the reason he won the competition against Dutch. He wanted it to be fair.
Dutch managed to get the upper hand despite the fact that Predators have superior strength and agility. Rather than face the humiliation the young hunter took his own life.
There was another young hunter wanting to earn his trophies on Earth about 10 years later. He went to L. A. and was challenging local gangs. He did not find any of them challenging enough, but one human did strike him as a challenge. A Lieutenant Michael Harrigan seemed to be more dangerous than any other human he encountered so far. He started testing Harrigan and eventually they began to hunt each other in a sort of contest.
Harrigan tracked the Predator to his own ship where they engaged in a hand to hand duel. In the end Harrigan defeated the young hunter and earned the respect of the rest of his clan who were watching while camouflaged. They gave him a token of respect and left with the young hunter that failed.
